She’s Ready,

She’s Ready is a female-only initiative, developed and managed by Active Life for a Healthier You, who are based in Southend. The project aims to empower women from in Southend to get involved in physical activity volunteering and to help other women begin their fitness journey.

Since launching in 2017, the project has supported a huge number of women to overcome significant barriers to volunteering, including low-self-esteem, body confidence issues, unemployment and domestic abuse.

The scheme works to develop a volunteering offer centred solely on the needs of the women involved, taking into account family life, cost of travel and school holidays to ensure that it as easy as possible for them to take part.

Lisa Wright, Project Manager, ‘It was a huge honour to be shortlisted with the other nominees, but to win was just testament to the women that are dedicated to She’s Ready and what it stands for. We hope to show that being physically active isn’t about being skinny or wearing the latest trainers, its about making it a lifestyle choice and making it part of everyday life regardless of who you are. These women show up and support people week in, week out to achieve great things and this award acknowledges their hard work’
